Hi al! Newbie to the forum but not to the wings, been searching for some answers on a 1986 Aspencade SEI trike I picked up about 2 months ago, the engine was out in need of a stator, so I did the stator, regulator along with a new water pump and clutch pack, all back together now and running, the problem I seem to have is with the Tach reading about half of actual rpm's, also after it warms up it starts to jump up and down on the rpm's only on the digital dash the actual engine rpms stay the same steady idle. I am wondering were the tach gets it signal from, I believe it comes from the NS sensor on the crank under the front timing belt cover, but not sure. Any LTD or SEI gurus out there? that can help? Also have questions about the radio system, no sound at all, I'll save that issue for the radio section.

Thanks for any and all help.
From the Aspencade manual but can't see the LTD being much different

Tachometer

If the tachometer does not indicate engine speed properly, turn the ignition switch OFF, and check for continuity between the Yellow/Blue terminals of the meter white 4-P coupler and #1/2 ignition coil. Then check for continuity between the Yellow/Green terminal
and Blue/Yellow terminal of the #3/4 ignition coil.If the trouble still persists, check for loose or improperly connected meter wires in the meter unit.
If the wires are connected properly, replace the meter unit with a new one.

Electrical is not my strong suit at all, I am taking it that the couplers location are around the steering neck area under the false tank? I have the Goldwing manual and the SEI supplement manual some of the pictures are really hard to see in there of what they are talking about in some of the cases. Thanks for the reply
From the manual

access the plugs from the front by removing the front vent (2 screws)On Interstate and Aspencade, rotate the rear view mirrors on their mounts about 90 degree to access the two bolts either side in order to remove the front windshield trim

I actually missed that section in the manual, finally found it, found the connector on the SEI coming out below the windshield it is actually a one piece 10 pin white connector, there are many slight differences between LTDS and SEI vs. the regular Aspencades. Did a continuity test and all shows well, guess if I want to go further I will have to pull the meter out from the fairing to do some further investigation. Thanks for pointing me that way SIR Tricky
