This is my first try to to post a message. Bought a 1984 aspencade in June 07 36000 miles, Color is Pearl siren blue. Change all fluids front forks engine oil rearend oil new brake pads front& rear.
Had alot of fun riding bike all summer. Live in Brighton,Colo. rode in the mtns most of the time. Trail Ridge Road & many other high mtn roads What a great summer The Wife & I really enjoyed our selfs Sad Sad Winter sucks This April I will be 62 & retiring looking forward to another great summer of riding Just installed two elite3's pulled tires myself so I could do some maintance greased Final Drive Now I would like to grease the steering head bearings I have the goldwing service manual clymer manual & owners manuel :?: This service looks a little scary any help suggestions would be appreciated I have lerarned so much from reading the from forum on this stite & the Grwwa forum about maintance riding saftey& many topics Thank you for being hear Chuck

Sounds like your a hands on type, it's no scarier than any of the stuff you have done so far.
If your just pulling the head bearings apart to grease them, I wouldnt bother, not at the mileage that is on the bike.
If your having problems with the steering or wobbling then thats another matter, that would call for some adjustment.
I did change my head bearings but that was around the 130,000 k mark and they did need it then.

I'm with Tricky. If you're not having a problem, leave them alone. You have to release the handle bars and get them out of the way. Gently remove the rubber cover from the top of the steering stem to expose the clamping nut. Modify a $40.00 socket to prevent damage to the steering cord. Remove that nut and adjust the jamb nut below it correctly and reassemble. If you've never done one, it might be best to take it to someone who has. It's not "hard". It's just precise.
I have 120,000 K on mine and I haven't had any wobbles or signs of wear yet. I am going to leave it alone.
