I'd like to replace my oem horns with something louder. Found some at Advance auto parts. Is there any problem just connecting these to the original wiring or will I need to add a fuse or possibly a relay?
Probably a relay would do the trick, some of the horns take quite a current to operate.
Thanks Tricky, I went ahead and used a 4 terminal universal relay and added a 10 amp inline fuse. they are about 3 times as loud as the stock horns ,real attention getters.
I have a set of air horns and anything less than a 20amp will blow, I guess having to have a compressor to pump the air out is the difference.
Good you got the job done.
I know 10 amp is pretty low, I used 14 gauge wire so if needed I can always up the fuse amps. Just wanted to make sure there won't be a problem.
Bob, can you post some pictures showing the horns you bought?
I went to local junk yard and found a set of small car horns and replaced the Honda horns useing the same wire. Have had no problem, works fine and much louder.
