I did a 500 mile ride Sunday and was on I-95 coming out of the Fredricksburg area and due to traffic adn other riders, I was un-able to avoid a very nasty pothole at 78MPH.
Yesterday and today I notice a thump when driving around parking lots at low speeds.
(imagine hitting a bump at low speed and feeling a echo style thump).
visual and shaking assorted items has not led me anywhere as of yet.
I figure this weekend I will tear the bike down and do a safety inspection.
The noise is coming from my seat to rear area of bike.
Any idea's or leads would help.
Could be the tire damaged
I had a tire separate it's belts after hitting a square edged pothole once, and it thumped pretty much as you describe. It is not impossible to bend a wheel either. Might be worthwhile to get it on the centerstand or lift and rotate the wheels with some type of reference pointer rigged up.

feetup is on to something here. just might be the tire or rim. good luck and keep us posted
I would bet on a damaged tire.If it's bad enough to hear it thumping it should be quite noticeable spinning it by hand up on the center stand. If you can feel it in the seat then it will be the back wheel.
Nope, tire and rim are both fine.
standing still with front brake applied feet down and plopping my butt down hard on the seat makes the noise(which is coming from center of tire/hub area) and seems as if (when inspected from below) that there is or might be play in the rear hub.......
I will be doing the tear down inspection this weekend......
I just hope this doesnt break the bank
Im hoping its just a failed wheel bearing and hasnt damaged anything else yet.......
Keep us posted, maybe we can help or learn something from this.....

Could you have worn or improperly torqued swing arm bearings???
