For sometime now, we've had a hissing noise in the intercom which we have not been able to remove. One suggestion was to install a noise filter. Well, as it happens, I just won one on eBay and wish to give it a shot. Problem is, I'm a real novice when it comes to this sort of thing and was wondering if anyone out there on this fine new forum can help. First and foremost, where is it connected and to what?

Thanks in advance and Happy New Year to all!
Is it an ignition system noise filter or a charging system noise filter?
I'm guessing that if you open the fairing on the left side that you will find the appropriate connectors to plug this filter into. If not then I would remove the false tank cover and look for the appropriate connectors there.
Does this noise dissapear when pressing the brake?

No, the noise stays constant and is only reduced by turning the volume control down quite low.
Ian, have you asked the person you bought it from where it connects to and from what model of GL1200 it comes off of?

Vic, the filter came from a 1985 GL1200 Limited. Ironically, I had just sent off a request to the eBay seller asking where, how and to what it was connected on his bike.

I received a prompt reply last night from the fellow from whom I bought the filter. He advised "...it connects somewhere near the radio supply, under the left side glove pocket in the fairing." As noted in an earlier post, the filter came from an '85 Limited. I think I'll wait until the filter arrives when I can get a part number which may be of benefit. In the meantime, I'll dig out the wiring diagrams for my '84 and research the matter from that end. No doubt I'll still need some qualified help from the more technical members of this forum so don't go away!
Keener, that sounds alot like the filter/capacitor that goes between the regulator and ground on the Ltd. The best I remember it looks like a fuse with 2 male spade conncectors except a little larger. I've got the parts manual for the Ltd and also the schematic for it as well. Let me know if you need any info!

roscoepc, I'm trying to send you a picture of the filter but can't get it to work through the forum process. If you could send me your e-mail address, I could attach it the old fashioned way.

I thought that the old fashion way was to put a picture in an envelope, add a stamp and give it to the mail man. I guess I'm just real old. :wink:
@ Keener: You have mail!!

roscoepc: I've just sent you a direct e-mail with a picture of the filter attached. A wiring schematic would certainly help and be much appreciated.

I too would like to see a pic of that filter...I had one come off while I was installing the EC Harness on my 86 and for the life of me I can't find where it wires back in..It has caused my external speakers to stop working,all I have now is headsets...I'd rather have speakers when just driving in town,even with the helmets on I can hear speakers just fine and still hear other stuff too..
Tim, this is what the filter looks like;
