I have been rebuilding my 86 GL1200A. I had the carbs rebuilt at shop and was started and running wuth an IV to the carbs. I had a rust problem with tank and since have cleaned all out and ran gas from tank until all clear. Problem is that when I hook to gas line and try to start the gas doesn't flow. Should the fuel pump come on when key is on? If I run test leads directly from the battery to the fuel pump shouldn't it come on? When I did it nothing happened. I figured I would do a direct test to the pump before going to the relay.
Try this
Just did this last weekend. The hardest part for me was locating the fuel pump relay. It is located forward of the air breather box behind the coils. I disconnected one of the coil wires to gain a little room to disconnect the plug.
But what if I just bypass all that and run two jumpers directly from the battery to the pump? Shouldn't it run or atleast make a noise? I get nothing.
