Hi does anybody have the dimensions of the piston supports to aid the fitting of the pistons back into the cylinders
and any tips on getting the two halves of the crank case back toghther thanks mick
On VW engines metal oil filter wrenches are used to hold the rings compressed as the pistons are slid back into the blocks.
OK, I'll reveal my ignorance. What is a "piston support"? I understand piston, rods, bearings, rings, ring compressors, valves, valve compressors, etc, but I've never heard of a piston support.

Tom
I assume he is talking about a ring compressor, something similar to the one shown here
He might be talking about a support that you put under the piston skirt to hold it square to the bore while you work it into the cylinder. Kinda like this

I have a friend who made something similar for the inline fours. I can see where a one piece would be handy for these motors
Frank if you have access to a gl1200 clymer manual go to page 91 you will see this explained
That's good info. I'm afraid that I may be getting into something like that on my 85
