Progressive rear shocks
OK I have a question I'm doing front Progressive springs in the front end , and my question is the rear shocks, has anyone replace their rear shocks with progressive coil spring adjustable like the 412 series ?? or doe's everyone just go back to air shocks ?? my Interstate did not come with an on board compressor , so i leaning towards adjustable coil socks. there's only 30 dollars difference in the price so that's not the issue.

Thanks
Tony

buy the air shocks and a pump off ebay for $29 bucks or so and have some adjustability anytime, you will find that changing the spring settings on the 412 series is next to impossible unless you have a naked wing

I installed Progressive 416 (I think) on our Aspencade - I run almost no air pressure riding solo, and then air up to set the ride height back to specs. I run the front at zero air and the Trac at 1. With a recent fork oil change the suspension is pretty nice for a 1985 bike...

I did the rear Progressive's and the on-board compressor doesn't work so I keep a small mountain bike pump with me and can adjust air anytime.

I have replaced the rear shocks with the progressives you speak of and have set them up for my rides and am very happy with them. Good feel two up and gear, stable and predictable steering response. It is more involved to adjust them on any given day but I am very happy with them. My intent is to rebuild the rear shocks but for now it doesn't really take that much work to swing out the bags and adjust them. I'm not a purist but I do love to ride.

Just to clarify - that's with Progressives in the forks?

Stock suspension on mine - 40lbs air front and rear, both ends aired up to the top of the acceptable range on the gauge - I still don't like the flexible wallowing feeling when you hit any kind of bump in a corner.

Just to clarify but my '84 needs the 14.25" rear shocks, right? The Progressive 416s plus the air adaptor for an extra $13, right?

I think we are getting mixed up a little, I was responding to someone who had been talking about progressive 412 a spring and damping rear shock. I believe you are asking about the progressive 416 air shock and yes it needs an adapter to make it fit the goldwing so that the air hose fits the goldwing air supply and crossover configuration. Everyone I checked with that sells the shocks sells the adapter. Personally I am happy with the 412's but I am not yet sure of the longevity factor.
