Speedometer hub testing
Can anybody tell me if the protruding flat shaft that stick out of the speedo hub should turn when the wheel turns? I took my sensor off, spun the wheel and got nothing. I'm thinking my hub may be bad, not the sensor? And, should I be able to turn that flat pin/bar that sticks out of the hub?

yep, sounds like the gear has stripped out
gear used to be available but no longer i think (44806-MG9-003) now listed as dc'd

box assembly (44800-MG9-013) is still available, new one here is a good price http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-SPEEDOMETE...b4&vxp=mtr

but ebay has plenty listed for insterstates used for less than $10 http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-GL1200-GL-...b4&vxp=mtr

according to interchange, all box assemblies are the same except for 87's,but even then my 86 & 87 dont appear to be any different

Thank you very much! I had "assumed" that was the case, but you know what happens when you assume something. Big Grin

at least that side is a cheap enough repair, whereas if you have an lcd dash and the sender goes out they are getting absolutely expensive to buy, even though they are used

cheaper now to just rely on a gps

There's a used Sensor on eBay tonight with a Buy It Now for $50. I'd buy it for a spare, but I don't have the cash. It's got your name all over it!

check this out $59.00 new. This is where I purchased mine. Fast shipping. I also ordered oil filter an a few other items since the prices were so good.

The change out was a snap and the wing is back to its typical glory. Even though the speedo can easily be done without, I really wanted to keep track of my miles after mounting my alternator and I also wanted my radio volume to work too. (the self cancelling signals can just go away as far as I'm concerned).
I'm glad that everything is done and working properly. Now to start racking up the miles~!
