Riding with choke on

Is it OK to ride with the choke on until it warms up. My 87 Aspencade will not run correctly unless my choke is on. After it warms up it runs fine. Is this normal.
I never owned a bike with carbs before. Thanks..

Yes it's fine but you can foul your plugs if you forget and leave it on. It sounds like you carbs are due for a cleaning, run some Seafoam through a couple of tanks and see if it helps clean them up some. You may need to take your plugs out and change them or at least clean them afterwards since the crud will tend to foul them.

A well tuned engine will warm up faster than one which isn't.
Just to clarify, the choke actually enriches the fuel ratio by adding gas (enriches) and not restrict air (choking). They both serve the same purpose, just in different ways.

I turn mine off as soon as it is safe for me to do so when I get of the freeway. It stays on longer when I take surface streets. And of course, each engine has a slightly different temperament.

I have fouled plugs by leaving it on too long.
