Nos engine, carbs, starter gem of a find
hi wingers

i can't believe my luck last week.
i sold my home for a good price.
bought a new home with a massive
garage. then found on ebay
a genuine bargain that blew
me away.

an ebay in Dublin advertised
a nos 1200 engine, complete with
Nos carbs and starter.
no one else bid and i won it
for £1000 brit pounds.
What a very lucky find.

The engine and carbs were on
display in a motorcycle college.
This was a display engine to show
the compression and set up
of a flat four.
The engine and carbs has been
installed in a bike. no miles
whatsoever.
There is fresh oil in the bike,
which is clean.

i actually phoned Honda up
and asked how much it would be
to buy the new engine, carbs and
starter. the parts guy laughed,
saying 'you won't find a nos engine
and carbs anywhere. if you did
it would cost you £4k.

the gal did well!

has anyone else installed a nos
engine?

is it best to install an upgraded stator
in the engine, before putting the engine
in the bike. the old stators filed right?

many thanks wingers!

angel

ooops, sorry!

my post should've advised

'the engine and carbs have never
been installed in bike!'

it has been a busy day !

kind regards

Angel

If you read enough of this site, you'll skip the stator and do it up right with PoorBoy's external alternator conversion.

hi admin

thanks for your advice.

the nos engine and carbs
we're delivered Friday.
they look great. one or
two chrome manifold bolts
missing.

q) if the engine is new, back in. '84
would the o rings need to replaced
for the carbs, thermostate transfer
tubes, water pump, etc as
no heat or water has effected the engine
only stored time?

would you replace the aged related
timing belts with no use on them?
would stored time effect them?

the nos engine and nos carbs were
covered up and 99% of the engine is
factory clean. the timing belt covers
have a few patches of contamination
on the alloy. they just need buffing out.

I've watched Steve's engine swop
out and we were thinking
about either paying a goldwing expert
mechanic to do the swop. as
he does this all the time or
do it our selves. we've a good size
garage, and a small heavy duty
bike ramp.
the removal of the timing
belts and cog to aid removal
is something we've not done.
this is our first wing.
on Steve's utube video it
advises about turning the
engine to find tdc and then removing
the left and the right hand timing
belt.

is an engine swop something a
home mechanic could do please?

I've contacted three honda dealerships
to be refused the work, due
to amount of space the engine in
and out would take?
also there priority is selling new
plastic rockets rather than help an
existing customer. i was advised that
summer is the busiest period
and could i wait 5 months
and bring into them at the
end of the year.

we want to ride our wing,
like every other winger!

many thanks for your advice!
