Are my springs shot??
I haven't ridin my LTD for at least 2 years because of leg problems, but I have noticed that when the bike is on the side stand, it was standing nearly vertical. When I pushed on the battery cover to ingage the grommets, the bike fell over. It took only a light touch maybe a couple of pounds, it was sitting on flat level concrete.

I know there is no air pressure in my tubes or rear shocks, but the old girl just stands too vertical.

Can the metal springs themselves go soft ??
I am going to start a major fixup cleanup on her, new tires, brakes, front tube seals, antidive valve, all master cyclinders. rear shaft, and every thing else I can think of.

I have some home projects that must be done first, then get the bike up on a steel table I have so I can do the work. I have plenty of time to plan and get it done right,

If your going to store the bike without pressure in the suspension use the center stand.
That being said, I have used Progressive Suspension in both front and rear for as long as I can remember..... (meaning I cant remember when I installed them) Smile
I don't have problems with the bike being on the side stand but then again I don't leave it on the side stand for a long time.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

I guess this means I need to get new Progressive springs.

It was strored without preassure because it won't hold pressure, that is one of the things I need to correct.

enjoying the view from the saddle....... due mainly to the people and information found within this site

with no air pressure in rear shocks an 1200 will definitely be "near vertical" on the sidestand and also very hard to pull up on the centerstand
also the LTD is about 50-75 lbs heavier than an Aspy

I am going to put the bike onto a work table. then start to go through every thing, rebuilding what I can and replacing other parts.
I want to make it look and work like brand new.

It was on the side stand because I couldn't get it on the center stand with my bad legs, now my legs are fine so I am looking forward to riding.

FYI,

The concrete where I park my bike is not pool table level but very close.

I was a full journeyman carpenter all my working life, so I can assure you that the concrete floor was not the cause of the bike being almost vertical.

When I lift the back of my bike while on the side stand, it will tilt left around 10 degrees, that's where it should be.
