!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! H E L P !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have messed up my beloved GL1200

I left work on saturday, I felt like showing off and Fired the ol GL up hard :o

First gear she really performed,

Shifted to second, raised the front wheel for a bit and gained speed very fast..

Then to 3rd, speed climbing at a fast rate.

4th gear, something happens Confusedhock: Confusedhock:

Felt like I lost one cylender, I let off slowed down to normal speed.

I then throttled back up at a normal rate, ran ok but when I called on it a bit it started skipping again and the valves on the right side started pinging.

I stopped at the stop sign and took off at a normal pace.

It felt normal thru 3rd gear

But when I went to 4th and called on the power a bit it started missing and pinging again.

Now it is like this all the time.

What have I done?

I checked all the plugs, they are all uniform in color, white looking.

This is now my work vehicle now, so I must fix it ASAP.

Thank you for any ideas on what this problem is.

Jim

Sounds like you might have jumped timing, but I've never heard of anyone doing that on a wing before. When was the last time you looked at the timing belts? Might want to look at the timing mark on the sprockets (gears?)???

I jumped timing once on an old Firebird doing the same thing.

I'd start with a compression check and if it checks ok, then you going to have to start going thru everything, one item at time.

Sounds like you need to check your timing on your cam gears, that's the first thing that comes to mind as you aren't going to jump ignition timing. It's gonna be a pain but it sounds like that's what happened. Odd that it only shows up in the upper gears though. performance should be off (even if it's just a little) in all gears. Good luck Jim, keep us posted, Joe
