STATOR VOLTAGE
I HAVE A 1987 GL1200 MY VOLTAGE IS ONLY 11.7 UNDER POWER. I HAVE CHECKED THE THREE STATOR WIRES THEY EACH READ AROUND 3.5 EACH AT IDLE AND 3.9-4.1 UNDER POWER. IS MY STATOR GOING BAD?

I would suggest you do a search for how to test the stator.

the voltages you report don't sound right, are you testing DC voltage or AC voltage?

The stator is a 3 phase AC generator, the yellow stator wires carry AC voltage and current, only after it goes thru the 6 diode array, which is inside the rectifier/regulator unit is it DC, then it goes thru the regulator circuit and it should be about 14.1 or 14.2 while running.

Have you checked all connections in the charging path :?:
We solder the yellow wires to make sure to have the lowest resistance possible, and no loose connections. I replaced my yellow wires with 10 guage wires inside a plastic sleeve and soldered top and bottom.

How many extra standard type light bulbs does your bike have if any ?

I have seen pictures of Goldwings with 44 extra bulbs, at 1 amp each that would be 44 x 14.1 = 620.4 watts :!: that is more than even the larger stator of the LTD can handle, I think you would have to tow a generator in a trailer to handle that load plus the normal load of the bike.

I only have 2 extra light bulbs ( but 64 red LEDs in a brake light ) any thing over 1500rpm locks mine at 14.1 - 14.2

Good luck
