Carb Question
On my 85 Asp. changed out one of four spring/diaphram/needle valve covers on the carb. (not sure of correct descrip.) with a chrome cover. When re-installing everything went back together but not sure if diaphram properly set in groove. Bike seems to run fine but was the first time I drove it. Question is, would putting a very thin spot of grease in the groove to hold diaphram lip until cover applied cause a problem.

Silicone grease no problem for sure but some other petroleum greases could cause swelling of the diaphram.

I've heard petroleum(sp) jelly is good to use? Or would that cause swelling as well?
What silicone grease is good to use?

Go to a hardware store and get plumbers silicone grease, it's the best deal.

Can you use rtv gasket sealant if you're still having a possible vacuum problem off the caps? The diaphrams look fine just not sure if they're sealing.

You can use RTV silicone but I don't recomend it because you might damage the diaphragms the next time you tear them apart. Use tiny drops of Krazy glue around the outside perimeter instead.

Make sure you have the little notch on the underside of the covers in the right position on the carbs... The chrome covers I bought for my bike were total crap and I ended up just polishing the originals... They came out looking better than the chrome ones and they work a bunch better too...
