Very carefully take it apart and clean the contacts on the board that affects the readout.

Mine was doing the same thing.

Or you can send the unit to http://www.sierra-mc.com/ and they will clean it for you
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

Thanks for the help. I called him and he said that the repair should run about $85, due to a cracked chip. How careful do I have to be to take it apart myself?

Not a difficult job, just ID where the different screws come out.

There are six screws on the sides and one of them is smaller than the rest, DONT put a long one in that hole.

$85 isnt a bad price for replacing a chip in the CB, they will give it a good clean at the same time.

They are good people to deal with.

I am going to give this a try, I have found two short and one long screw on the left side so far. When I get it open what am I looking for?

Are these the contacts? The ones that are all covered with green crusty stuff.

All back together and no extra screws left over. Thanks for the help. Now I just have to get it back in the bike to see if it is fixed.

Back on the bike and working. I noticed that one of the tiny contact was corroded away and I think that is why I am missing one of the segments of the numbers, but I can live with that. Once again thanks for the help.

You can fix that missing segment with a soldering pencil, some copper and some solder.

I was thinking about attempting a repair, but was afraid of damaging the other contact in the process. The next time I have to take it out of the bike for some reason I will do it. I have another CB on the shop bench that I am going to try the same fix and see if I can get it working. Now that I know what I am looking for inside the CB.

Next repair is the clock. It gets power and can be set to the correct time. It will hold the time until the first bump that I ride over and then it resets to zero. Any ideas?

The clock is a sealed unit, let me know if you get into it without damaging it. I had the same problem with my clock, turns out it was a bad/corroded connection on the red wire causing the problem.

Is the red wire contact inside the clock unit? I have taken it out and looked at the external contact, checked wires but could not find anything that looked like it would be the problem.
I guess I will fine the least destructive way to cut it open and see what I can find.

The red wire is in the harness, it is the one that feeds the display, and the bad connection is most likely at the plug located on the frame under the false tank I believe on the left side, front.

Thanks I will see if I can find it. The clock seems to work fine, when it has power, the readout is correct. It just will not stay on all the time.
