85 GL1200I Quit and then ran again twice.
although was a pain to get to, because of the fancy covers and all, got the ignition switch apart. Didn't look bad, but gave it a healthy contact cleaner bath with an acid brush, then after it was dry, put some dielectric grease on the contacts, and put it back together. Everything seems to be working fine...we shall see when I take her out on an all day run. BTW, installed one of them fancy maintenance free batteries ya'll keep talkin about...just in case, lol. :YMPRAY:

My friends 84 interstate does the same thing even though according to Honda it isnt in the VIN range for the ignition switch recall. And it has the alternator coversion on it so I dont think your charging has anything to do with the dieing out.

My ltd starts charging at about 1200 rpm at 14 to 14.1 volts indicated more like 14.8 at the battery. Under that at 1000 idle it doesnt charge. Looked it up in the factory repair manual and it isnt supposed to charge at idle.
My charge rate is about like yours as far as idle and have no issues keeping the battery charged.
