I'm a happy guy! Carbs finally rebuilt!
Hey Folks,

After much research and sourcing parts and tools last year, I finally got my carbs done and reinstalled today! Had a bit of an issue getting it started, but all is well now. Going to sync 'em all up and do final adjustments tomorrow. It actually runs on four cylinders now. \:d/ It was no slouch before on three and draging one along for the ride, so I'm really looking forward to riding all four cylinders!

I also found the culprit that caused the wonky cylinder. A PO had "redone" the carbs and missed getting the needle hooked on the float properly. So, the float was holding the the needle closed all the time. Confusedhock: It was also missing the shim or washer under the seat that caused the screen the distort when bottomed in place. Scrounged up some pieces that did the trick from some old leftover carbkits I had tossed in the toolbox.

I'll also throw a plug in here for Randakk's carb kit. Quality parts and service for sure. :YMAPPLAUSE:

I finally get to try out my new Morgan Carbtune manometer tomorrow and tidy up the final adjustments...

...and then, a ride!

OK, so I've just finished picking the bugs outta my teeth because of the perma-grin... I have to learn how to ride my new four cylinder GL1200 all over again! I really don't reccommend the three cylinder version. After finding the stuck float valve, I knew there would be a difference, but Hooh-Lee Schiet, man! I just rode a quick 70 kms and burned through about a quarter to a third of a tank of fuel. Wink) I'll start driving like a normal person after the edge wears off... or not. I'm gonna love this bike all over again!

That Morgan Carbtune is awesome to use. Made my first carb sync a breeze. I was amazed at how little movement of the adjustment screws affected the other carb readings. I went through and got all of them reading around the 22 mark, then readjusted the idle air mixture screws, then resync'ed again and all carbs were dancing around the 24 mark on my manometer. \:d/

I am officially no longer looking at GL1500s anymore... :d

I've got my 85 in for a tune and carb clean up. I'm guessing this is gonna add some zip! I've only been getting 17-20 mpg with mostly around town, but that's only 2 tanks of gas in my ownership, so we'll see if was just needing to get the cobwebs removed after winter storage.

What are you getting around town mileage on your bikes?

Sounds about right on mileage, I've heard pretty smiliar numbers from other folks, so will see how it fares after I have it back from tune up.
