Hello everybody! I guess I should've introduced myself some time ago but I didn't know where to post it. It finally dawned upon me that this was the place. I've been actively motorcycling with my wife since 1989. When I was in high school in 1948 I built the motorcycle scooter combination, using piper cub airplane wheels, a seven horse sallsbury engine, and in 1909 Indian transmission. Believe it or not I have a picture of it, and probably should post it, but I won't. I traded it for a car in 1948 when I went to college, and didn't have another motorcycle until 1988, 40 years! Then I figured I wasn't getting any younger, the kids were grown, and so I might as well. It's a long list.

82 Honda Silver wing which we rode to Yellowstone
83 Honda Silver wing which we rode to Banff and Olympia Park
84 Honda Gold wing which we rode to Alaska
82 Honda 500 Turbo which we rode to the Blue Ridge Pkwy.
83 Honda 650 Turbo which we rode around Wisconsin
83 Kawasaki 1300 which we rode the Illinois
89 Yamaha GTS 1000 which was a wonderful go fast bike
88 goldwing 1500 which we rode the Arizona
78 vintage gold wing which was for my son
03 ST 1300 which we rode to Yellowstone
05 Yamaha XT 225 which is a wonderful dirtbike
86 Honda Aspin cade with sidecar which is what we are writing now.

Since my wife and I are just about 80 the kids were suggesting that we needed more than two wheels, so now we have three.

We're looking forward to trips back to the Rockies and elsewhere this summer!

Best wishes to you all

I must say welcome first & then oh how I envy you. I turn 65 in April & am hoping that the new valve I had installed in the old ticker 3 years ago allows me the opertunity to still be rideing when I am 80. I have been riding nearly continuos since 1962, where I started with a 1950 something(9 I think)BSA 125 Bantham 2 stroke. I now have an 85 with a Voyager trike kit. Cheers Angela aka fysty-1 :YMHUG: .

Welcome Bullwinkle ... from Missouri.

Well, you're about six years ahead of me ... and I'm still on two wheels, for now. Then "stuff" happens. Changing a flat tire on my Volvo wagon three weeks ago, I tripped over a curb and down I went ... all 250-plus lbs of me onto ONE knee slammed to the concrete sidewalk. After the stars and planets faded away, I took myself to the ER to get the knee cooked with X-rays. Ten pictures and they didn't see a break .... but the knee swelled up into an impressive goose egg. I caught it at home from the wife: "What's a guy your age doing changing a tire?" My age? I've been changing tires since I was 14 years old ... and the approach hasn't changed much or at all. But something HAS changed, I just noticed. After smacking my knee playing football when I was 14, the pain was gone in about a day. But here it is, three weeks later, the goose egg is gone, and it hurts like crazy when I walk (so I'd better RIDE :d ). Maybe I'll see if rubbing AMSOIL 10W40 or EVANS NPG+ Waterless coolant into it does any good

Maybe we should start a new thread, "Old Farts on Old Bikes, how to stay young and enjoy the ride." I'm sure there's lots of experienced opinion out there on how to make finding enjoyable even if you can't do an iron butt. I don't know about you but my bladder won't take 24 hours. So for me it makes more sense to stop more often. I remember once reading an article about exercise while riding. I haven't installed pedals on my bike yet, but maybe somebody has some legitimate ideas about that. And what about the rest stops. I remember riding one time from Omaha to Denver. We stopped at a gas station outside Ogallala Nebraska, and I fell asleep for about a half an hour. It was late in the afternoon, but I was good for writing to Denver and got there in the evening. I'm sure there are some people who have some good ideas about this.

By the way I'm using voice recognition software to do my typing for me and I see that it screws up occasionally, but I think you can get the drift
