Greetings, i generally don't have a lot to say,, but here goes. Been into my bikes since the age of 14 and had bikes almost all through my life.. Sadly i let the last one go a few months ago.. Four was too much.. Now down to nil. but do have a new toy in the garage.. So when time and money permits i will look at getting another bike. I have a liking of tourers and had the Honda Pan european st1100 for four years. Always liked the goldwings and owned a GL1000 when i was about 20 yrs old back in Africa.. great bike.. but just too heavy for me at that age so got rid of it , but it left an impression ever since.
Anyway other than that i am into my hydraulics and fibre glass and moulding, its got to be a bit of a passion and pays for my ebaying habit.

Thanks. So what is it about these Goldwings that people seem so drawn to them? Is it the sheer size or just they are comfortable? And why is it they seem to loose their left side cover so regular? They sell for some silly money i see.

I find my Gold Wing to be very comfortable, although it's definitely not a city bike due to its weight. It's a good handling bike with more than adequate power and all the amenities a guy could ask for so overall it's a great bike. That left cover falls off because the rubber grommets dry up and wear out then the pegs get loose to the point that they no longer hold the cover in place. I lost mine several years ago and it cost me over $100. to replace it including paint, but, now I have installed new grommets and I have installed Rudy's Lid Keepers <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://rudysproducts.com/Store/RLK.html">http://rudysproducts.com/Store/RLK.html</a><!-- m --> which keep the covers with the bike even if they fall out of their mounts.

They look like a good product, fair play on them finding such a simple solution of an expensive problem. I expect they sell a fair few of them.

Nice fabrication work on a valuable GL1000-1200 component.

You may like to consider offering a "tethering option" called Rudy's Keeper Kits for your customers as insurance against losing one of your masterpieces.



They are sold for about $US25 by Rudy's Products (see price list for various tethers. I use them on all possible "losable" covers (saddlebags, side compartment covers) and the tethers are VERY reliable. Because the anchors are bonded to the inside cover surface no drilling or any other changes are required.
