Iphone 5 used as a GPS
I am really just looking for some ideas. I have been kicking around using my Iphone 5 as a GPS and for listening to tunes through a tape adapter. I have looked at various solutions to mount my phone, but most of them seem really sketchy and I would hate to get my phone wet.

Anyone out there have a solution that works for them? I ride once the snow is gone all the time even in the rain, so this has to be as waterproof as it can be.

Thanks,

elastic bands and baggies will help

My Nuvi isnt waterproof neither my Itouch, I carry the above for emergencies.

I try to avoid rain personally having been brought up with the British schoolboys aversion to water Smile
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

Ive got an Android not an iphone but i think they are pretty close - I use the Sena intercom, its Bluetooth connects directly to the phone so I can leave the phone on a cradle up front if i need to see the map but I usually leave it in the back trunk (plugged in) and make phone calls or listen to music or talk to the other bike all by voice commands through the Samsung.

I have been using my phone as a GPS for a few years now. I used to have an HTC and now have upgraded to the Samsung Note 2. For a GPS mapping I use Copilot app. This app has all maps downloaded to my memory card so that I do not need a data connection for the maps. Not the best app but it was worth the $20 for that feature (losing phone reception was getting me lost). For the case I have an Otterbox. Best investment ever and has saved my phone numerous times when I drop it. For mounting I use a Ram mount off the clutch perch. my old HTC I used a universal phone cradle. My new Note 2, I opted to upgrade to the Aquabox from Ram. Its bulky, and looks like a pencil box for elementary kids, but its waterproof and worth the protection. I bluetooth my phone through my Scala G9 and its amazing.

I really like the Lifeproof case and mount that seems like an affordable option for the wing... Getting lost cost more in gas (at least that is how I am going to rationalize it to my wife Smile

I have my iPhone 4S mounted to the Wing's handle bars with Ram Mount. These mounts are very well built, made in USA too. The web site uses a "wizard" to build the mount for your needs. I have two, one for the Wing and one with a suction cup that I use in my car or tractor-trailer. The photo shows the Wing mounted handle bar. However, that bracket also mounts to the clutch or master-cylinder of the Wing. Its a very secure mounting system. I rode from Massachusetts to NC-TN Tail of the Dragon and never once was concerned about losing my iPhone. Here's a link to my video of the Tail recorded with my iPhone.

I haven’t had a reason to use GPS, but the one that came with my bike I believe was installed by the PO, who was also the OO (original owner) and is circa 1984……..

a big paper clamp which was painted black, has chips in the paint and light rust, and is screwed to one of the lower fairing, body panels

and it doesn’t use electricity!!!!!!!

enjoying the view from the saddle....... due mainly to the people and information found within this site
