Installed Odyssey PC680 Battery

I mentioned in a different thread that my battery didn't fair well over the winter. When I went to start the Wing the standing voltage read about 11.5 volts. I noticed as I pushed the starter button it dropped to 8 volts and hesitated then a couple weak cranks and it started. Since I was also installing more lights I decided to go with the Odyssey PC-680.
Last season when I stopped in traffic I would hold the rpm's up a bit to keep the charge rate above 12v. I do have the Poor Boy conversion. Now with the PC-680 I'm noticing that at idle (1000rpm) the charge rate stays at least 12.5 volts. Also when going out in the morning the standing charge is about 12.6 volts. I learned something about the Odyssey batteries when reading the literature included. These Odysseys are BOTH a starting and deep cycle battery. So while I'm cleaning the bike I feel comfortable having the key on ACC and listening to the iPhone/SiriusXM radio knowing the battery is designed to be drawn down. |

you might be able to increase the output of the alternator by changing to a larger diameter pulley on the crank, if you have the room.

A week after initial battery install and a few days of riding I now get over 13 volts at idle and at least 12.9 volts when I go out in the morning to start the bike. When driving down the road with all lights on (43 marker lamps, 2 halogen aux lamps, 1 headlamp, stereo, and iPhone) I get 13.9 volts. YAY PoorBoy conversion!
