You need the supplement manual and then you have to do the prescribed test procedures as outlined in the supplement. If you don't have the manual I believe I can email it to you.

No change in the gear ratio at all, it's identical. Just put a GL1500 final drive with 96,000 KM's on it in my bike and it's working great and it only cost me $40. on Ebay. They are much cheaper and heavier duty than the GL1200 final drive.

Interestingly enough there was an even harder ride option available but most people were warned against it at the dealer. I bet you'll get out there and enjoy it every now and then, you can't help but have fun in that car and the bonus is that it's a Chevy so cheap parts will always abound for it. E...

You should also perform the compression test with the engine warm, makes a difference in pressure. For wet test you add a teaspoon of motor oil in the spark plug hole and perform the test. If compression comes up greatly then you have bad rings/cylinder walls, if no change after adding the oil then ...

Not one I would have chosen for myself, it was for wife's 60th birthday, complete with vanity plate. It's an '84 automatic, all stock, 74K miles.

Nice. I had an 86 convertible and it was a really fun car.

Might be intake vacuum leaks. With the engine running, using an unlit propane torch, pass the head of the torch all around any connection point in the carbs including the intake manifold bases and listen for a change in engine RPM, if there is a change you've found the leak.
