I have something that I find bothersome. Between my instrument display and the clear outer cover is a dead spider and a few webs. Is there a way for me to get in there and clean it out?

You can remove the mirrors or at least remove the top bolt on each and loose the lower bolt, swing them out of the way.
Remove the speaker covers.
The dash can be pulled out.
I prefer to remove the front garnish and the windshield.
The dash cover should come out then.

I'm going to order a new wind shield so I will do this when the weather warms a little. Over the last few weeks I've been working outside on carb removal/reinstallation among other things. i have a garage but the lighting is horrible.

Taking the screen off on the 1200 is literally a 10 min job. Had to do it this weekend.
Remove the four bolts holding the mirrors on. You then prise the chrome cover off from the front ( I inserted a screwdriver just above the headlamp and gently lifted it). There are then 4 screws holding the screen in place.

I replaced my windshield with the wrap around, real easy job.
