86 Interstate wheel/disc installed on 84 Aspy? - DC44 - 11-17-2015

All: I need some information. I've taken the front tire/wheel & disc off of my '86 "I" and installed it on my '84 Aspencade. The disc on the Aspy is much thicker than the disc on the Int. One of the part #s on the Aspy brake assembly is different than the I's assembly.

It seems I need to either switch out the discs and install the '84 disc on the '86 wheel or install the '86 brake assemblies on the '84 Aspy. The reason I ask is after installing the 86 I's tire/wheel on the '84 A and pumping the brakes the front wheel is dragging. I know there should be some friction as I turn the tire/wheel by hand but it seems to take way too much effort to make it turn.

Ideas? Suggestions? I need to take care of this in the morning, 11/18/15, so I'd appreciate any replies when able.

Thanks in advance,
DC

I think you need to use the caliper mounting brackets off the 86 to use the rotors off the 86. Poorboy

Thanks, I'll check it out in the morning. I really appreciate it.

I believe the brackets to mount are the same. The problem you'll run into is the offset. There is a small, relatively flat bar that connects the anti-dive to the caliper. Called a "bridge". One is straight. One has a curve or offset. I don't remember which was which, but the bridge off the Aspencade is the one you need to use if want to keep the vented rotors.

I believe that to be incorrect.
The outer face of the 10mm rotor is closer to the centre of the wheel requiring a different caliper mounting bracket thus the offset link to reach the anti-dive on the fork.

I will chime in the same.....
calipers are the same, its the hangers and rotors which are different.

Use the Aspencade hangers with the Aspencade rotors.
Use the Interstate hangers with the Interstate rotors.

Don't mix n match.
