New to forum a couple of quick questions
Hello to all. I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 1985 GL1200I. I have a couple of quick questions that you may be able to help me with. My first questions is can I raise my trunk just a hair? Where it is sitting right now makes it difficult to remove my saddlebag covers. Question number two is that I have the opportunity to purchase another bike basically for parts. It is a 1984 GL1200I. Would most or all of the parts be interchangeable? Thanks Bob

there are a lot of parts on the 84 that are specific to the 84.
so with that in mind you have to be careful to make sure it's interchangeable.

you should be able to raise the trunk using some nylon spacers, might have the get some longer bolts though

strange that the covers are causing problems unless the previous PO did something out of the norm, post us a closeup pics if you can,the usual thing is most people like to use a setback for the trunk to gain room for a passenger

I suggest checking the parts listings at places like http://www.westernhonda.com to see if specific parts are the same from year to year. I know the engines aren't the same from 1984 to 1985. Many parts, like the carburetors, rear shocks, rear brake rotor, instruments, swing arm, front fork, and front brake rotors do seem to be the same from 1984 to 1985.

The 84 starter is unique to the 84. Also, the pulse generator is in a different location between the 84 and 85's. However, there are many main parts which will interchange between the two years. There are also parts which interchange throughout the entire GL1200 series. Do your research diligently and you will minimize disappointment. I would like to find a parts bike just to have in house (not in the house - LOL)
If the parts bike fits the bill, by all means - buy it.
