Short Windshield

Does anyone make a shorter windshield? I must have the standard windshield on my 1985 GL1200I which is fine during the daytime but I do a lot of night riding and am having a hard time seeing through the glare. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thanks

Have you tried polishing your windshield and getting rid of the glare?

The usual wax/cleaner has a consistency similar to water.
Because of the consistency, more elbow grease is required than usual, but take your time and work slowly. Overheating the wax may damage the windshield.
Use soft clothes and work in a small area until you have learned what works.

The PO added an extension to the top of the windshield, and used a thinner piece than factory and it turns foggy and yellow.
Watered down Turtle Wax gets rid of the cloudiness and the yellow and is quite clear to see through.

Just take yours to a glass shop and have them cut it off, there may be a plastics company near by too. I've cut off several. Buy a jig saw blade made for plastics, mask everything off and get to cutting. Have someone help you since you want to keep it from bouncing so they need to hold it down on the table. finish the edge off with some sand paper and you are done.

it might be possible that you have a taller windshield than stock,measure your windshield from the bottom to top,should be approx 23" tall.and also have sidewings and a black band at the bottom of windshield

besides polishing the windshield,using pledge polish also has a tendency to help with the glare by filling in those microcracks,and considering the low cost of a new windshield you might just find that it in itself my be a reasonable solution

It's not hard to cut down a windshield. I have used a jigsaw, a router and a cut off wheel on various occasions to cut down the windshields on several bikes. I like the cut off wheel the best because you can follow the marks more easily. Just measure and lay it out carefully, use wide masking tape over the cutting area and then feed slowly. It's easier to cut down when the windshield is on the bike because it's simpler to hold it while cutting. Once cut use an orbital sander to finish the edge to your liking.

Roger, you have enough property around your house to call it a country.

cutting down the shield really is not big deal, I would suggest you remove it from the fairing first to aid in eliminating the shakes as you cut it. A router or dremel type cut off tool really much better than jig saw but should really make a template guide for the cut. As to polish ..... like nobody out there has heard of "Plexus" or "prist"? Made for exactly that, polishing plasitc windshields! Always keep a can in my trunk ....... try yellow night driving lens also great for reducing the night glare .... Crowe ..

If I could look over the top I would be doing that but it is way to tall. I'll have to measure and see if maybe I have a taller than standard windshield.
