Rear tire removal, easier third or fourth time around
I know there's loads of threads on what brand tire to use. I'm very sold on the Dunlop E3. I put on a new set of the Elite 3's on in March of 2010. It's August 2013 and I'm replacing the rear tire. Not sure of the exact mileage, but I do 6k to 7k a year. So I've go to be pushing 18,000 miles at least. The rear is worn out, the front can wait till next year. I used the IInnovative Balancing ceramic beads. This tire wore incredibly even. And lasted three and half seasons. I ride lots single, and quite often two up, and several trips two up towing all our gear. We've done (from Massachusetts) Americade, Lake George NY three times, Niagara Falls, Ont, North Pole, NY, and last year Deals Gap, Tail of the Dragon in NC/TN. I removed the wheel/tire today and being the third or fourth time it was much easier and quicker. And I managed to remove it while on the center stand and not use my lift. I did remove the exhaust this time as the mufflers get in the way of the rear axle bolt. I'm also doing one of my wanted upgrades, I have an EBC Pro Lite rear rotor also ordered. It'll go with the completely rebuilt rear caliper I did in the spring. Including two new caliper pistons.

Mr. Roleketu? This is The Tire Police. That tire shows evidence of being leaned over in curves. Next thing you will be using The Front Brake...

if the lower bolts on rear shocks have been removed you should be able to jack up the rear wheel enough to remove the rear wheel spindle without removing the mufflers. Tough on the side of the road, but there should be a few rocks within reach or always ride with a buddy Smile
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

I saw that too but didn't want to comment.
My tires are proof I do miles of 'straight up' riding.
On occasion I will drag the side stand though, and when I do, the guy behind me in our group will always have a story to tell the rest of the group when we stop for a break.

Have the new Dunlop E3 installed. And a new sexy EBC Pro Lite rotor. Wednesday I go for a ride and break them in.

My son and I have done it so many times on the center stand that we can do it under 30 mins, like a pit crew LOL. The hard part is putting her back together, I always find it tough getting the rear shocks in place because you can drop the swing arm enough. We end up using a floor jack to lift and pivot, not the safest but quick.

I do like the way that pro lit rotor looks. It takes me all day and sometimes part of the next day to install a new tire on the back.

but you get it done and it didn't have to go to the shop for a day or two. Smile
It doesn't matter how fast or slow a project gets done, progress is the key.
kudos!!

Did a hundred miles today and everything was super smooth. What a difference when you are used to a worn tire and then have a new one. Yes, I prefer to spend a few days doing my own work. Heck, the shop is going to have it for a few days too. And shops are getting $70+ per hour.

".....and look Pa, no finger prints........"
Ya, that's because after I installed it with finger prints, I sprayed it down with brake cleaner.
