Radio bezel from Sierra - work on Aspy?
Another question...

While I am ripping the carbs apart, I'd like to remove the stock sound system and replace with an aftermarkert unit.

I'd like to use this, but it says it is for the Interstate:

Will this work with an Aspy (if I rip the clock out as well)?

Thanks!

Yes I imagine it would.
Why rip out the original? any particular reason.
You lose the auto volume, you may need the intercom one day.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.

Ripping out the old stereo because I'd like to be able to play my iPod while riding. I don't use cassette's anymore - since 1992.

The only reason why I would pull everything else out - CB, auto-volume, etc. - is lack of use. My wife doesn't ride with me so the intercom is a bell that I will never ring, a whistle I will never blow. Also, I use a full-face helmet so I could rig some speakers, but I know the mouthpiece won't work. If I do switch helmets, I could get a bluetooth receiver and be able to use my phone in lieu of the CB. I thought maybe I could get some money for them on eBay to help defray the cost of the new jets (other project), stereo etc.

Now that you have asked the question, I suppose I could keep some of the stock equipment. I've looked at the schematics and could just send the output of the new stereo into the existing wires and keep the auto-volume control (that is a nice feature). I know the existing stereo needs an amplifier, but most of the new units you can buy are already amplified. I could really overdrive the speakers if I'm not careful.

The CB select and headset / speaker switch is on the old head unit. If I keep most of the existing equipment, I could install some external switches to mimic the switches on the old stereo and keep the headset and CB functionality. Also, the CB radio may come in handy when the zombie apocalypse hits and the cell phones all die. ;-)

Maybe I'll add some rear speakers - most new head units have 4 channels. Does anyone have a picture of rear speakers on a GL1200?

I have been using my ipod on my stock system for several years.

I installed an audiovox FM modulator , I tried the wireless model for a while but wasn't happy with it.

The muting system allows me to have the CB and intercom.

The answer to your question is yes but it is a tight fit. What I mean by tight fit is not the dash but once the dash is installed the clearance between the bar cover and bezel is really close. Will have a installed picture for you tomorrow but for now here is what it looks like mounted on the dash panel of the bike, I have an 86 Aspy SE-i...
