Replacing Front Fork Seals on Wing?
I helped a buddy that had a 1500 change out his seals on bike, without taking the forks completely off at the stearing head.

Can it be done on a 1200?
I have an Interstate and just did my valve cover gaskets last weekend. Going to have to take one bolt out and gasket seal the new rubber grommet that isn't seating and leaking on my left toe and cardboard on the garage floor........thanks tricky for the torque settings.....

This week the fork seals started leaking so I ordered them and they arrived yesterday.

Weep hole is now dripping a little so water pump seals and rings is next after the fork seals...........life of an 86 GL1200 owner.
Side note: do I have to replace the entire water pump, or just the seals and o-rings?

I sure wish these had all waited just one more month. We close on our new house a week from today and it has a big garage to work in. All of my Haynes and Clymers are packed in household goods. I am currently staying with sis. Brother-in-law rides an 1800, but hires out all his mechanical work. Picky about his garage floor, unsealed, so I dare not do the work without impurvious drop cloth.........nephew is a mechanic for GM dealer and has his own garage behind his & niece's house and does own business in the evenings. Said he will haul it out to his place tomorrow and help me.

So, anyone ever tackle the fork seals from the bottom without taking top off?

Can be done.

Myself I prefer to have them off the bike, I prefer to work on the bench.

As for the water pump, while you have the thing off you might as well change it. the thermostat too while you have the rad off.

Lube the O rings on assy. grease the gasket both sides. replace all the O rings and the 3 soft crush washers.
There is a list of the part numbers on the forum somewhere have a look around I think Vic posted them

Thanks again.

I was afraid you were going to say that. But you are correct, while I have the radiator and hoses off, I might as well replace everything up front there, including the three year old alternator belt and the cooling fan. I saw somewhere where somebody replaced the fan with one from a Honda car. It had more blades and less electrical draw but mounted well even with Don Piggotts conversioin, which I did 3 years ago.

Water pump might be in a month or so, after the snow flies. I usually ride year 'round except in snow and on ice. Now that I am running a Chevy alternator, I am heating gloves and vest in the winter with motorcycle electrical circuits I've added. I run everything through relays and their own fuse block.
