Fork oil question
Hi everyone. I am planning on draining the fork fluid on my 84 GL1200I, had a question though. My book says the fluid capacity is 323cc's. I have approx. 520cc's of BelRay 15w fork oil (which is not enough if it takes 323cc's in each leg). If I split what I have in half, can I make up the difference with some DexIII ATF as long as I keep the mixtures the same in each leg? Not sure what weight the ATF is compared to the belray. Thanks!!!

I'd say yes but you will be thinning your fork oil. I've herd that ATF is around 7 weight. But if you read the manual it says to use ATF so WTF.

Why nickel and dime the bike, if you want to use fork oil buy another container or just use ATF. Sure we want to do things a little cheaper than taking the bike to a shop but there is a limit.

You could always make a custom blend of weight in the fork oil, but that takes some playing with numbers. I've mixed the two before, no bad results, but I think for simplicity's sake I would just but a second bottle.
