can plastic be re-chromed?
was wondering can plastic be re-chromed--i have a cool fuel pump cover that came with my wing that the chrome was damaged and ended up taking it off but would love to have it redone so i could use it again--as i have never seen another like it Smile

That's an interesting website and product, and the videos make it appear that the product works very well.

But even with the video, I'm pretty suspicious of their claims. After all, it's supposed to be chrome from a spray can. Has anyone used the product?

Edit: Here's a link to the catalog. http://www.alsacorp.com/products/catalog...atalog.pdf

Supposedly you can only get that link if give your email address, but I hate that. I provided a temporary email address to get the link.

Wow nice looking product...

I painted my old bike and even this one's tank and front fender with:

Fantastic results from a can with a specialized tip.

I would bet that this product would work as good or better.

It really is incredible what you can do with a canned product these days. You can get pro results if you're careful.

WOW - you have GOT to be kidding me. I went to the web site and they have a e/Learning Video Demo Area (How To). Pretty wild stuff. I was looking at some Chameleon Paint and it was EXPENSIVE. They sell two variations of that paint and I would be curious what it costs. Look at MIRAGE and EFFEX if you want to see something interesting . . . . WOW THANKS for the info

Indeed...I was very impressed.

Here is a link to some motorcycles done with the product.

The good news...can be found at autozone.

If you use it make sure you follow up a couple weeks later with the engine enamel clear. (or the clear from the other link above)

If you looked into the Alsa site a bit you found the flexible metal sheeting that can be formed to fit your part. That might be less expensive than the paint. I've used Duplicolor for years and it's a good product. Alsa just has so many more choices and possibilities.

I agree with you on the ALSA site, you can go nuts with the possibilities there. I kept looking and looking and looking.

I think I am going to talk to the Dupli-Color folks regarding the EFFEX paints. I was thinking of a yellow color, probably an automotive paint, the BLACK EFFEX to do the stripes/ Only put stripes on the tank, front fender and trunk lid. Use the CLEAR EFFEX on the edges / ridges for the color changing effects and some highlights. Keep it simple but with some pinache and pizazz. I cannot even SEE my rear fender, that is not going to be touched.

My exhaust pipes got scarred from the previous owner who replaced the battery and did not connect the battery overflow tube. It was capped and kept on pushing off the battery tops, draining the battery acid down . . ARGHHH. Such a simple thing and such an ugly result. I was looking at using the Dupli-Color METALCAST paint on the mufflers (nothing to loose really and the example they show was pretty cool). Might use some of the METALCAST on the frame rails around the engine compartment but trying to not overwhelm with so many colors and effects . . .

I ordered a Tulsa Winshield, new chrome front piece by the headlight and 6 new emblems for the ones that faded on mine from Honda. It was $114 for both the side covers (4 total there), the front fender emblem and the top shelter Aspencade / Honda emblem. Since I have the old chrome front piece by the headlight, I am tempted to fix the dent, paint it yellow also, what the heck, see what it turns out like . . . . .

In the thinking stage now, see what everybody says and what strikes my fancy. Should be much better than what I have now. I love riding that bike.
