AUTO VOLUME ADJUST
I've read a bit here and there about the device that adjusts the radio volume to compensate for wind noise at speed. If I have one, it doesn't work. It's not a huge deal but I'm curious about it. '84 Aspy.

thanks, bil

Mine works OK but control knob on there, one would think it doesnt have any effect but it does.

It doesnt work on the headset only on the speakers.

Turn the knob to zero (full left) then when traveling at say 60 mph, turn the knob slowly to full.

See if you hear any difference. If not it could be pooched, it is very subtle.

When it is working it is one of the things I like about the stock radio over an aftermarket.

Sometimes the wiper on the switch loses contact with the rheostat and you have to spin the knob back and forth several times to clean it off. If that doesn't work try a chemical electrical cleaner applied to the inside of the switch.

Thanks guys. You may have answered my question Tricky. I rarely ever use the speakers, almost always the headset so that's probably why I never notice it.

Yes maybe.
The headset output from the radio is separate from the speaker and doesn't go through the AVC.

Did you try the speakers to see if it works?

My friend has an aftermarket radio in his Interstate and he cant hear the radio over road noises and wind noises as his speed increases. Of course his bike isn't equipped with the auto volume.

Is theer a knob, other than the volume knob that controls this?

If you have a 1200 ASpencade or SE there are two knobs on the left side of the fairing one is an AVC volume control and the other is a tone control

Oh! On the left side down at the knee, under the lock and key.
I thought that was for the CB, and since I don't have head sets in my helmets yet, I haven't played with it.

Does the CB have to be on for these controls to work?

No they dont have anything to do with the CB
The volume control increases the level of sound as the speed of the motorcycle increases.

I haven't tried it since your post but i will tomorrow. Dang, the old dawg learns a new trick from time to time.
Guess I should pull out the owners manual.

Although I had the CB installed when I bought the bike, the installation guide infers that these two controls are already on the bike before the CB goes in. I originally thought they related to the CB, too, but couldn't figure out why it would need a tone control. Duh

Even the tone control works too, but dont expect to get any bone rattling base out of two 4" speakers in a poor sound environment.

I replaced the speakers winter before this last. No, still not woofer type base, but it sounds pretty good.

Next question.

On the radio, knobs on the left side, what the flat knob in the middle do?

That's the mute level control, it tells the radio how much to be quiet when the mute button is pushed.

Sorry Vic, you got it wrong there.

It controls the muting when using the intercom.
The intercom is voice activated which means that when you have the radio coming through the headset and one person talks, it controls the level of muting that it would apply to the radio sound.
If wind noise through the mike affects the radio sound then one can use this control to reduce the effect of the wind noise.
