Review of Sierra replacement GL1200 speaker grilles.
I recently replaced my original Honda speaker grilles with aftermarket replacement speaker grilles from Sierra, so here is my comparison and review. The Sierra replacement grills will work on all GL1200s, 1984-1987, and come complete with all necessary hardware (grilles, rubber gaskets, two screws, two clips, and two emblems). The original 1984 speaker grilles (Note: 1985-1987 speaker grilles are designed differently, but 1985-1987 "speaker delete" grilles attach just like 1984 grilles) have three attaching points, a large "ball and grommet" attaching point (like the side covers) plus a tab on each inside corner that fit into slots in the fairing. The Sierra grilles are designed like 1985-1987 speaker grilles and also have the tabs on the inside corners, but instead of a "ball and grommet" attaching point, they come with a clip which is inserted into the grommet opening in place of the grommet. To install the Sierra grilles in place of oem 1984 speaker grilles, or in place of any year speaker delete grilles, simply remove the grommets when using the Sierra grills and insert the provided clip into the hole where the grommet was. The Sierra grilles come with a pair of screws (one for each grille) that screws through the hole on one side of the grille to secure the grille to the clip. The Sierra grilles also have small plastic Honda emblems which clip into the opening where the screw goes, and these cover up the single exposed screw in each grille.

In my particular case, my left side oem grille had both tabs broken off, and my right side grommet hole was broken out. A previous owner had replaced the speakers at some point and in the process broken off the grille tabs and busted out one hole. A attempt at repair had been made with stick-on velcro, but nonetheless both the old grilles were sagging and looking pretty sad. And since the hole was broken out on the right side, the Sierra clip wouldn't fit. But I was able to use a fine-thread screw, passing it through the existing hole in the speaker grille, paired with a large flat washer combined with a couple of rubber washers and a nut on the back side of the broken opening to attach the right grille. I was able to access the back side of the grill by removing the right side turn signal from the fairing and going in through the wiring hole. This allowed me to get the right grille very snug, even tighter than the left side. The screw is covered by the Honda emblem once installed. No additional holes were drilled in the speaker grill.

The Sierra grills are well-designed and of high quality, making for a very factory-looking installation. Both grills installed easily, attached securely, and look great! They look just like a Honda part that came on the motorcycle. I am very satisfied with them, and would highly recommend them to others.

I need to pick up a pair, because mine are missing the Honda tab and one has a crack. Where did you purchase them?

Hey Bill, I tried the Sierra website, but couldn't find the grilles. Can you give me a little help? Thanks. @-)

Even I got a set last year, They are not as shiny as the OEM more like a velvety black and they fit perfect.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.
