rear brake still a problem
recently I wrote about having to bleed my rear brakes , this was done .
But after a short ride, my bike was smoking(brakes)? I had trouble changing gears, when my brakes locked up solid, I left it for a couple of minutes, but then my rear brake went totally soft again.
Any ideas?

The rear caliper pistons are seized. You'll need to buy a kit and completely rebuild the rear caliper.

Most times I have seen this happen is that the caliper slide bolts will not allow the caliper to release correctly. Especially happens on the rear brake possibly because it gets all the crud splashed up and it's a sort of out of sight out of mind until this happens.
If you grip the caliper you should be able to feel a looseness, (very slight).
Before attempting the rebuild pull the bolts and lube them with never seize or a silicone based grease that wont eat the rubber dust covers. If a total rebuild is needed make sure the rubber dust seals on the slider bolts are in good condition.

Hi, I just had replaced the dust seals along with the pistons for the rear brakes, but I'm still getting drag when my bike is in neutral ( won't move) The rear brakes were bled , but the front was not bled.Could this possibly be my problem as I know now it is a unified system. Also my rad is going into the hot zone on my gauge, but the fan did not kick in either.
I have ordered a thermostat just in case, not sure if these two are related, with the brake still seizing?

The front right and rear calipers are unified. If you have repaired the back one, which one on the front is giving you a problem?

If it's the front right, maybe there is something blocking the return on the master cylinder thus preventing the calipers from releasing properly

Usually when one caliper has given up the ghost it's likely that all are due for some maintenance.

One thing that rarely happens is the brake hose may collapse inside causing poor fluid return when brakes are released. If this is the case, you may need to start loosening things to find it.
Start with bleeding the caliper, if a good healthy squirt comes out all may be good but. Next try pushing in the caliper piston with bleeder closed. If tight, crack the brake hose bolt & see if you get a good squirt there. If so, then crack the fitting at the opposite end of the hose, if a good squirt there, then you know the problem is further up, like plugged return port to master cyl.
Try doing this as soon as the problem occurs. Sometimes it takes a little driving time for this to happen.
