Trike Conversion Kit
Hi All:

For anyone who might be interested in an instant - removable type trike kit.

I have done some sketches for a trike attachment to our GL1200. This is a removable trike similar to Insta Trike, Voyager or Trigg.

In my research of other kits, costs etc I found that these kits start around $3500.00 plus shipping and go up from there. To me this seems a little expensive so I decided to design a kit similar that would be much more affordable.

The kit I designed would cost between $600.00 & $700.00 painted as long as you can do the welding and painting - The weight is also very reasonable at around 160lbs.

I have created the preliminary sketches that I will start the actual build from and there may be some alterations as I go along. Once the trike is built and fitted to the bike I will refine the sketches to as built and take pictures.

It's at least a starting point:

I have the exact same GL1200 Aspy with a homemade trike kit. I didn't make the trike kit, and I think it would be very hard to remove. And takes bumps like a rhino, ouch!! :-\
Your kit looks great ! Keep us posted as to your progress. I might be interested in changing mine out when you get yours done.
I'd be glad to "test" it for you.

Sounds very interesting, 6 to 7 hundred is somethoing I could afford. How hard would it be to remove, re-install once it's been installed?

Keep us posted.

Hi:

Actually there are only 6 bolts that attach the frame to the bike - 2 at the front each side and 4 at the rear attaching the hat section which is permanently attached to the rear crossmember. - I would guess at this time between 5 / 10 minutes to install or remove

Hi Rob,
Great post. Please keep on trucking. Your drawings make a lot of good sense. I'm located about 40 km from "Aircraft Spruce" located at the Brantford Ontario Airport (CYFD). With regards to the aircraft hardware identified on your drawings if you need anything looked up or picked up, Spruce is a good source for the hardware. I will be keeping an eye on your progress ^Smile^ ^Smile^

Unfortunately this thread was never followed up by the author.

If you PM wgj46 he and I built a trike up which he rides now. I only rode it a short distance during the trials so I don't know what it is like on the road.

It is a different type of ride.
The only stupid questions are the one's that are not asked.
