Here's another option that I can vouch for being very well made and a precision fit too...

Look at the 5th post for a picture of it...

Convenient thread for me. Yesterday I experienced a very serious wobble at around 30 mph. Close to a 'tank slapper'. I had both grips in hand and it wouldn't stop until I braked down to about 15 mph. Scared me a little. Never had that happen with any bike before. I can not find any play in the head or wheel bearings. The swing arm is not loose either. I need to torque the head bearing after checking it with a little scale which I don't have but will buy if I can find one somewhere. I also have a slight, very slight indent center. May have to replace the bearings.

The head bearing adjustment looks to be a pia. Do you have to remove the bridge to get at the nuts?

The tire is about worn out so I ordered a new one today. This Dunlop 404 only has about 8,000 miles on it! I usually get around 20,000 miles on a front. My HD Heritage got 24,500 miles on the front. Also Dunlop but different number.

The fork brace has a crack in it on one corner. Got a used one coming from E-Bay.
Thanks for any replies.

Replaced the fork brace. Set suspension and tire pressure to factory specs. I still have a slight head shake in a gentle right turn but not in a left turn. I may have a bent frame. This bike has been down on the right side by a PO. I suppose I can live with it if it doesn't attampt the 'tank slapper' again. If it does it is out of here.

hopefully you didn't replace the front with a D404 again because in my opinion it is not a good tire for the GL1200
had to replace a rear in rear in canada with a D404 and it is not a good handling tire for the GL1200,it only has about 1000 miles on it and will soon be replaced by a metz 880 or a E3,it hates raingrooves, tar strips and bridge grates(big time)

I have a set of 491 E-2's now. Will mount them soon. Hope they last longer although the tread design looks similar.

Replaced the 404's with the E 2's. The steering head shake is gone and the bike is handling fine. Will see if the shake comes back when these tires are about worn out. Thnaks.
