I'm starting to think DIY fork seals is a bad idea.

I broke a 6mm allen trying to LOOSEN a fork bridge bolt.
I think I'm going to have to take the fairing off to get leverage on them. This is looking worse and worse. |

I hope you saw and read this thread!
http://www.gl1200goldwings.com/viewtopic...=50&t=9810 According to their video only one of the 60 plus leaking seals they used this tool upon actually needed replacing.
'RIDE TO BE SEEN' :d
Most common quote from a cager after killing a motorcyclist. "I never saw him" instead of "I never looked for him". |

I think removing the fork from the bike would be easier. I did fork seals, bushings, and progressive springs this season and following Tricky's post the forks were off the bike in 20 minutes.

I am with Roleketu on this one. I had mine off pretty quick too. My issue were the bottom bolts that hold the piston, I had to drill that one out.....

Ok removing the fairing wasn't the end of the world
Putting it back on might be a little more challenging. Unfortunately that one bolt is still stuck. I might try heating it tomorrow. |

Removing the fairing is not a huge deal, I would either get a helper, or remove the windshield first. I took mine off by myself. removing the lowers actually took longer. Once you get them off, there are 2 6mm nuts on each side, under the bottom, 2 6mm screws in the front, at the very bottom, above the front fender, and 2 more 6mm bolts behind the headlight. But you first have to remove the mirrors and the windshield trim panel to get to the headlight and windshield screws. But, the forks should come out without removing the fairing. Remove the front wheel, fender, and both brake calipers, which you have to do anyway, loosen the pinch bolts in the upper and lower triple clamps, and they should slide right out. Once you get themm off the bike is when the real problems start. I have never worked on forks that came apart easily. Again it's poor design, and not just Honda, all Japanese bikes seem similar.

Oh, I'm sorry I mis-read your first post. I was thinking the lower allen bolt holding the inside assembly. Now I re-read and see the fork bridge bolt.
