What should the 1200's top speed be?
What should the 1200 carburetted Aspy's top speed be, (on a private road of course!) in good tune, with a std windshield?

Realistically about 118-126mph.

In perfect conditions (a 50mph tail wind) I did get her up to 138mph once (for about three seconds before I chickened out)

Truth is anything over 100mph is downright scary, because you can feel the wall of wind on the front of the fairing, and if anything did go wrong you better believe that it is all over for you!
'RIDE TO BE SEEN' :d

Most common quote from a cager after killing a motorcyclist.

"I never saw him" instead of "I never looked for him".

I know you asked about a carb model, but my LTD would run 112-114 two-up and loaded. Single and no load 116-118 GPS, in perfect conditions. :d

My 84 yellow Wing has recorded a best top speed of 127 mph on the GPS, but, that was with ported and polished heads, fresh valve job, stiffer valve springs and open exhaust. I was tucked in tight under my lowered windshield wearing a full coverage helmet, the tires were over inflated by 5 psi, no brake drag from the calipers due to a fresh rebuild and a light wind was behind me and I was on flat and level ground, Hwy. 401 near Windsor, Ontario travelling to Essex, Ontario. Most bikes are pretty much speed limited by aerodynamics unless they look like a Suzuki Hayabusa and our GL1200's are like a brick in the wind, so, I'm thinking that 127 mph is pretty darn good for a 700+ pound motorcycle that is multi decades old bike with just a few mods to the engine.

Remember, No matter where you go...There you are!

Here is where I have ridden my 1984 GL1200I
I completed the lower 48 states in August 2009, riding the whole way with my Dad

Sgt Dave say's: Faster than I'm willing to go :d

I'm kind of like that today Sgt Dave, but, back in my speed days, decades ago, I've gone as high as 170+ mph in a car and 150+ on a motorcycle and these days I'm perfectly fine doing 20 mph tops on my e-bike, although, when the coast is safe and clear I still love to wind my GL1200 out just to hear and feel it roar for a little bit. :d I think the realization that my kids need me and my wife prefers having me around (and the price of fines)has really slowed me down a bit but, I'll probably end up kicking off some day from slipping while exiting the bath tub, which is probably, as you may already know, one of the most dangerous things we'll ever do in this lifetime (slipping in a bathroom kills people daily) but at least there you don't get fined and your insurance doesn't go up if you live through it and get caught buck naked. Helmets should be worn by all bathers to prevent death and injuries.
