Mysterious jingling sound
Ever since I've had my 1200 (a few years and 10,000 miles), I have heard a jingling sound whenever the RPM's hover around 3000. I have always thought that it was the tools jingling in the toolkit. Yesterday I took it for a ride with no tools or anything else on board, and still heard the sound. Anyone have any idea what it might be?

if you have a tool tray could be something in there
any chance there is a gremlin bell attached on bike?

If there is a bell somewhere, I have never seen it. And I have had the fairing off to put on brake lines, pulled the shocks, installed an EC Harness, a Fiamm horn and have never seen one! But that is exactly what it sounds like, a little tinker bell jingle. I am now selling it as I am purchasing an 87 Aspencade. I'm anticipating getting that question from a test driver. Maybe I'll just leave the tools in the tool tray and tell them it must be that --- even though I know it's not.

Our 1200 has a chrome ring that lives between the left hand grip and the controls on the left side bar. The grip will eventually work its way off a bit and this ring will get loose and jingle. It's my "grip position indicator".

Check the exhaust system. Could be a loose chrome trime piece? You might need to have someone rev the motor to 3k to duplicate the sound so you can listen for it. Or it could be inside the exhaust.
