Shock question
So I was putting on my new tires this weekend and while I had the bags off I was checking out my shocks. According to my manual, all GL1200's have air suspension in the rear, but mine doesn't. My rear shocks are progressive coil overs, not sure of the model. At any rate, the left shock is leaking. Is there a way to rebuild them? Alternatively, does anyone have an old set of OE shocks and air lines off an Interstate that they'd willing to part with?

According to everything I've seen and read......all the gl1200's had air shocks. Even the standards......? If yours are gone.....somebody took 'em.

I'm certain mine were replaced by some PO, possibly whatever police dept. had the bike originally. The fork springs were replaced with Progressives also.

Keep checking on eBay... I picked up a set for my trailer (GL1100 shocks) for $10 with the air lines and union... It cost me twice that just for the shipping... If you have some time, you should be able to find a pair real cheap... Just be carefull they are not from a wrecked bike as they might be damaged as a result...
As far as rebuilding goes, yeah it should be possible... I made my own shock compressor for the rebuilding on my air shocks... Check to see if Progressive offers replacement seals for the shocks you have... Even if you decide to get air shocks (good choice in my mind) you might consider replacing the seals prior to installing...

I had considered that, Ed, but I'm not certain of the model of the shocks. They have a label that says "Progressive Suspension" but that's about it.

I've looked at several sites but my shocks don't seem to look like any of Progressive's current offerings. I'm guessing they are a heavy duty shock installed by whatever police department originally had the bike. I'll take some pictures and post later this evening.
