Side stand

I would think that if you took the sidestand off and then went to a local machine shop, they could bend it safely and without damage for a few bucks.

I do believe the side stand is cast iron which won't bend safely.

I would think that the side stand would be a forged steel component, cast iron would snap to easily, especially the amount of times I've tested it :oops:

This is for all those metal Guru's out there. I think I asked this once before but can't remember so please bare with me. Can the side stand be bent slightly? Either by heat or cold? I have finally got my Baby where I can stand comfortly by re-contouring the saddle & letting the air out of the shocks. But now she stand very close to verticle on the stand. :? :? :?

I took mine off and put it in my bench vise,heated it with my cutting torch till red hot and tapped it back to the original shape. (mine was bent from PO making left turn with the stand down) hock: also the most common place for it to bend, is at the top where the bolt goes through. the tangs tend to spread apart. just heat red hot and tap it back in place.

Thanks Myplace, but the mounting tines are tight and straight. I need to bend stand so Baby leans over more. As is she stand to vertical and is at threat of falling ( to the right )in a breeze.

well... you could try a hard left turn with the kick stand down!

or just reverse the heat and bend procedure mentioned above. instead of straitening it like I had to, just whack it hard enough to put a slight bend in it. let it cool and reinstall. oh, I did hit it with a shot of black spray paint first.
